In Nigeria today, it has been realized that day by day new
acts keep coming on as artistes. Almost everybody wants to sing and most young
acts that go into music are always for rap. Everybody loves Dagrin, Olamide,
Reminisce and the likes and want to be like them. With the increasing growth
and achievements of Nigerian rappers, many youngsters feel motivated and like
to be like them too which increases the number of rappers we have thereby
making the rap game more competitive.
But even with the increasing number of rappers, some people
are still able to stand out and prove themselves to be better than others. Here
is our list of top 10 upcoming rappers that came to limelight in 2016 and had a
nice year.
1. Ola Dips
Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji popularly known as Ola Dips aka
Omo iya aje is an indigene of Ogun state. Ola dips is a talented rapper who has
come to stay because right now his talent is really speaking for him. The
indigenous rapper became famous after winning kokomaster D’banj’s ‘King is
here’ competition and with his hardwork, it earned him a record deal as he is
currently signed to Reminisce’s Edge Records. His music has gained massive
acceptance and he is obviously the street favourite presently. He has recorded
tracks featuring top artists such as Olamide, Reminisce, Lil kesh and lots
more. Ola dips has showed us his real quality by delivering nice songs that we
have seen which make him top our list for this year.
2. Dremo
Aboriomoh Femi Raymond with stage name Dremo is a top fresh,
young and urban new school Nigerian artiste who consistently delivers exciting
punch lines & catchy hooks. Born in Edo state about 20 years ago, the
artiste started music production at about 12 yrs old but signed his first
professional contract to APPE music entertainment in 2013. Currently signed to

3. Mz Kiss
Akindele Justina Omowunmi but more known by her stage name
Mz kiss is a rapper, singer, songwriter and performer who hails from Ondo state
and based in Lagos.
Currently signed to
Capital Hill Music/The Goretti Company of Illbliss, Chidinma and some other
acts. The ‘Owo Meta’ crooner is known for being a passionate and energetic
rapper. She has established herself as one of the best female rappers we have
in Nigeria today.
4. Chyn
Cheyenne Labesa with stage name Chyn is a United Kingdom
born Nigerian rapper who began his music at an age when many where still on a
quest to terms with puberty at age 16. Drawing influences from the greats in
the game, and exercising a great understanding of the music business, which has
aided his music considerably, he really made 2016 scream his name. The talented
rapper is currently signed under BahdGuys Records of Falz and has an album
released already, ‘The Graduate’.
Wale Turner, the “YORUBAD” rapper as he describes himself is
the new wonder kid of the rap world. The indigenous rapper who got a record
deal by selling himself on instagram is a really gifted and talented dude who
said every upcoming artiste would want the deal he has. Turner who is currently
signed to Royce & Royce entertainment tagged his label as a “family label”
and has declined offers from many big labels in Nigeria. The “NO” crooner has
really had a fantastic year which earned him the number 5 spot on our list.
6. Ichaba
Olusanya Mayowa aka Ichaba hails from Oyo state and started
singing professionally in 2015 when he signed with Appe Music Entertainment.
He’s a fast rising Nigerian artiste currently signed to Davido Music Worldwide
(DMW).
7. Yung Tizzy
Yung Tizzy with real name Faiso Atanda is a young indigenous
rapper who hails from Mushin area of Lagos state. After going head to head in a
freestyle battle with YAGI boss, Lil kesh, he got signed to Bang Mewsic
Entertainment (BME) lead by Seyi Awonuga. Yung Tizzy has released various songs
under BME like Genesis, Oluwaloseyi, Ema Jabo and also had lot of collabos, he
created himself a great platform. He also released his EP titled ‘Straight
Outta Mushin’ which has the acronym ‘SOM ep’ which was well received by his
fans.
8. Dotman
Olatunji Oladotun Alade known in the music circle as Dotman
is a vastly talented artiste born in Ogun state and a graduate of Unilag. He is
currently signed to U&I Music label. The rapper took the industry by storm
when he released his popular song, ‘Yes Melo’ which got a remix with Olamide
Badoo, and he had a very fantastic 2016 releasing the hit song, ‘Akube’. He has
also recorded some other songs out of which are ‘Fine girl’,’kilowade’ and lots
more.
9. Zlatan Ibile
Omoniyi Temidayo better known by the stage name Zlatan
Ibile, grew up in Ikorodu and a graduate of Mapoly, he was Airtel one mic
winner of Ogun state 2014 and since then has been trying all his best to
establish himself in the Nigerian rap world, and got himself a record deal with
Coded Records Entertainment in the early days of 2016. His latest song ‘
Legover’ is still hot and making waves in the streets with his
contest also going
on.
10. Sholleypizzle
Sholleypizzle goes by the real name Lawal Olusola Timilehin.
The indigenous rapper hails from Ogun state and currently a student of Osun
State University. He is currently signed to Batalyon Records. The talented
rapper released some songs in 2016 that has really been making waves on the
streets from ‘
Glory’ to ‘
Better Life’, ‘
Patewo’ and lots more. He really has a
bright future ahead and we hope to see more of him in 2017.
