A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER
Introduction
To Computers
Are you new to computer/s? Do you wonder what they
do and why you would want to use one?
Benaija welcomes you to Her Lecture Hall, you are in the right place.
Here, we will be giving you an overview of computers for you to know what they
really are and what you can do with them.
COMPUTER
APPRECIATION:
Computer Appreciation is a theoretical aspect of the
Computer Lessons where the trainee will fully be exposed to the basics of
Computer and it’s usage such as it’s definitions, tricks, Computer Terminology,
Concept, Parts and Others.
WHAT
IS A COMPUTER?
A Computer is an Electronics device or machine that can accept Data, Process it, and gives out the result as Information. Hence, a computer is a general purpose device that can
be programmed to carry out a set of arithmetic or logical operations
authomatically. Since a sequence of operations can be really changed, the
computer can solve more than one kind of problem.
DEFINITION
OF TERMS
Data:
Data
is a raw-fact that makes no meaning to the end user. In other words, data is a
raw-facts which are bluntly stated but does not make a simple sense. E.g When
you say “Amanda”, it does not make any sense but when you say “Amanda sit up”,
its no longer a data because it makes a meaning.
Processing:
Processing
is the ability of a computer to perform all the instruction it receives and
converts data to information.
Information:
Information
is the outcome or result of a proceed data.
CENTRAL
PROCESSING UNIT
A Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the
electronic circuitry within a computer that carries out the instructions of a
computer program by performing the basic arithmetic, logical, control and
input/output (I/O) operations specified by the intructions. The term has been
used in the computer industry at least since the early 1960s. Traditional, the
term “(CPU)” refers to a processor and it’s control unit (CU), distinguishing
these core elements of a computer from external components such as main memory
and I/O circuit.
System
Unit (SU)
The System Unit is the core of a computer system.
Usually its a rectangular box placed on or underneath your desk. Inside this
box are many electronic components that process information. The most important
of these components is the Central
Processing Unit (CPU), typically on the back of the system unit. Hardware that is not part of the system unit
is sometimes called a Peripheral Device.
